The Order of the Zenith

“From the One, All Light. From the Light, All Law.”

Overview

The Order of the Zenith stands as the dominant religious authority of the Aurionic world—the living doctrine through which the divine will of Aurion is interpreted, enforced, and made manifest across empire and society. It is not merely a faith, but a system of governance, morality, and control, inseparable from the rise and identity of the Aurionic Empire itself.

To its followers, the Order represents the pinnacle of civilization: a world purified by truth, governed by law, and illuminated by the unrelenting gaze of divine light. To its critics, however, it is something far more dangerous—a faith that confuses clarity with exposure, and righteousness with domination.

Core Doctrine

The Light as Law

At the heart of the Order lies the worship of Aurion, Lord of the Light, revered not simply as a god of illumination, but as the embodiment of Absolute Truth and Immutable Law. Light, in this doctrine, is not passive—it is active, judgmental, and consuming. It reveals all things as they truly are and destroys that which cannot withstand scrutiny.

In this worldview, morality is not debated or interpreted—it is seen. To stand in the light is to be proven worthy. To hide is to confess guilt.

The Creation of the World

The Order teaches that existence itself began in darkness—a silent, formless stone drifting within the Sjónlauss, the Sightless Void. Into this nothingness came Aurion, whose greatsword shattered the stone and ignited the first sunrise.

From that divine strike came the first lights of the world:

  • Aurorae (Aurah)

  • Moonlight (Vetr)

  • Lightning (Grom)

  • Starlight (Sutir)

  • Incandescence (Sarab)

  • Bioluminescence (Foraoise and Kymopoleia)

  • Glow of Magma/Fire (Keahi)

These lights are not merely natural phenomena—they are fragments of the original divine spark, each tasked with preserving existence until the world is returned to the forge from which it was born.

Thus, all life exists within a sacred tension: to burn brightly enough to endure, yet not so dimly as to be reclaimed by the Void.

The Law of Clarity

The central tenet of the Order is the Law of Clarity:

“To hide is to betray; to reveal is to be redeemed.”

This doctrine demands absolute transparency—of thought, action, and allegiance. Secrets are not merely discouraged; they are considered a fundamental corruption of the world’s natural order.

From this belief emerges the Order’s most defining trait:

Faith becomes surveillance.

Confession becomes control.

Rites & Rituals

The Great Unveiling (Zenith 1)

The holiest day of the Aurionic calendar occurs on Zenith 1, the Day of the High Sun—the moment when Aurion’s power is believed to be at its peak.

On this day, citizens gather beneath the open sky for the Great Unveiling, a ritual of public confession. Individuals must openly declare their transgressions before Solar Priests, exposing themselves to both judgment and purification beneath the noonday sun.

It is both a sacred act and a political one—reinforcing the idea that no truth can remain hidden within the Empire.

The Vow of the Iron Sun

The Order’s authority extends beyond the spiritual into the realm of state power through the Vow of the Iron Sun.

This oath, invoked during times of crisis—particularly regicide or succession disputes—places the Empire under a form of religious martial law, granting the Order and its priesthood sweeping authority to “preserve the spark” of divine rule.

In such moments, faith and empire become indistinguishable.

The Final Ascent

Death, within the Order, is not an end—but a return.

The dead are not buried. Instead, they are placed upon Solar Spires, elevated structures where their bodies are exposed to the sun and sky. Over time, heat and scavengers strip away the flesh, leaving only white bone.

It is believed that:

The sun drinks the soul back into Aurion’s light

The body is merely a vessel, discarded once its purpose is fulfilled

This practice reinforces the Order’s central truth: all things must return to the light that created them.

Symbols & Sacred Iconography

The Blazing Circle

The primary symbol of the Order is the Blazing Circle, a radiant halo of gold with twelve sharp rays. It represents:

  • The twelve hours of day

  • The twelve legions of the Sun

  • The unbroken perfection of divine order

It is both a mark of faith and a symbol of authority—worn by priests, inscribed on banners, and etched into the architecture of imperial power.

Vestments of Light

Priests of the Order are adorned in layered robes of:

  • Crimson (sacrifice and authority)

  • White (purity and truth)

  • Gold (divinity and eternal light)

High-ranking Solar Prelates wear polished brass gorgets that reflect light upward onto their faces, creating the illusion that they are illuminated from within—living vessels of Aurion’s presence.

Relics of Power

Among the Order’s most sacred artifacts is the Hazzan Thunder-Steel Sceptre, believed to be forged from a fragment of Aurion’s original blade.

This relic is not merely symbolic—it represents the continuity between divine creation and imperial rule, reinforcing the belief that the Emperor’s authority is rooted in the very act that created the world.

Sacred Beasts

The Order’s iconography draws heavily on two creatures:

  • The Lion — strength, dominion, and rightful rule

  • The Phoenix — rebirth, transcendence, and divine continuity

Together, they embody the dual nature of the Empire itself: a force that conquers—and one that endures.

The Priesthood & Cultural Influence

The Solar Synod

The Order is governed by the Solar Synod, a powerful religious council composed of:

  • High Priest — highest ranking authority in the Order

  • Imperial Maesters — interpreters of divine law

  • Arch-Prelates — enforcers of doctrine

While the Emperor is revered as the “Living Spark”, it is the Synod that defines what that spark means—making them, in many ways, the true architects of divine authority.

Centers of Worship

The spiritual heart of the Order lies within:

  • The Palace of the Two Lights, the Grand Cathedral of the Zenith

  • The countless Solar Spires scattered across Hazzan-aligned lands

These structures serve not only as places of worship, but as instruments of visibility—ensuring that the light of Aurion is ever-present.

The Sin of Obscuration

Among the gravest taboos within the Order is Obscuration—the act of hiding oneself from the light.

This includes concealing one’s face, acting in secrecy, and withholding truth.

Such acts are deemed “Shadow-Sins,” placing the individual in opposition to Aurion’s will.

View of Other Faiths

The Order does not deny the existence of other beliefs—it diminishes them.

  • Other religions are labeled “Flickering Embers”

  • Vetr’s followers are seen as “Lost Guardians”

  • The Vildar are condemned as “Wretches of the Root”

Only the Zenith offers what it claims to be absolute:

Truth without distortion. Law without compromise. Light without shadow.

Omens & Prophecy

The Scattering of the Sparks

The birth of the Pleiades in 85 AH is interpreted by the Order as a divine test—the Scattering of the Sparks. These children are believed to be fragments of Aurion himself, sent to judge the strength and purity of the Empire.

Their existence is both a blessing and a warning.

The Black Noon

The Order’s most feared prophecy speaks of the Black Noon—an eternal eclipse where the sun fails to return.

This event signals:

  • The Emperor has become unworthy

  • The divine order has fractured

  • Vefna, the Weaver, has ensnared the light itself

It is not merely the end of the Empire—

It is the end of truth.

Legacy

The Order of the Zenith is more than a religion—it is the ideological engine of an empire that seeks to define reality itself.

To its faithful, it is salvation.

To its enemies, it is oppression.

But to all who live beneath its reach, one truth remains unavoidable:

There is no shadow the light does not seek.

And no truth it will not force into the open.
