The Two Lights
House Hazzan traces its rise to Malik Hazzan, born in 30 BH, whose early life preceded the unification of power that would define the dynasty. At the age of 26, Malik overthrew the tyrant of the Marrakesh city-state, marking the beginning of Hazzan dominance. By 0 AH, he formally established the Hazzan Kingdom after completing his first major expansion, an event so significant it reset time itself with the beginning of what would become the imperial calendar. Malik’s reign lasted four decades, shaping the political and cultural foundations of the realm until his death at age 70 in 40 AH, an event immediately followed by the destabilizing period known as the Great Rift.
Following Malik’s death, Kadin ascended the throne in 40 AH, inheriting a kingdom strained by internal division and external pressures. His reign was marked by the First Maurim War, during which he ruled for twenty years before dying in battle. Concurrently, the political landscape shifted as Idris al-Ubari departed to establish the Ubaris Kingdom, signaling the beginning of regional fragmentation. Tariq Hazzan, ascending at just 17, inherited a volatile realm but began stabilizing it through strategic alliances, most notably arranging the betrothal between his heir Jalil and Noor Qibaa. This period laid the groundwork for a new generation of leadership that would ultimately redefine the destiny of House Hazzan.
The reign of Jalil Hazzan marked the transformation of House Hazzan from a powerful kingdom into a dominant imperial force. Ascending the throne at 18 in 79 AH, Jalil moved swiftly—appointing key figures such as Iliyasu as Master of Whisperers and Beniman as Master of War—while simultaneously expanding his influence through conquest and marriage. Within a year, he subdued the Maurim Kingdom and took Elena Walid as his second wife, formally proclaiming the Aurionic Empire in 80 AH. His campaigns continued with the conquest of Auroreline and the integration of its ruling house through marriage to Juliette Beauregard, alongside strategic incorporations such as the Archive of Ichnusa. By 86 AH, Jalil had secured a vast network of vassal kingdoms—including Ubaris, Nottgard, Villamvar, and Coill Mór—cementing House Hazzan as the unrivaled center of political, military, and religious authority in the known world.
