Tyra von Nottgard,

Warrior of Nottgard

Winter Warrior Gromyra • Lady-Steward

Overview

Tyra von Nottgard is the Lady Steward of the Wall and a sworn Winter Warrior of the Verndari, known among her people by the name Gromyra.

Daughter of Erik von Nottgard and Tora of the Mountains, she was raised in the same unforgiving world as her brothers, where strength is not a virtue—but a requirement. While others of noble blood were shaped for diplomacy or rule, Tyra chose a different path.

She became a weapon of the South.

Biography

Birth and Lineage

Born on Aestiva 3, 53 AH, in the iron-bound lands of the South, Tyra von Nottgard was not shaped for courtly grace—but for war.

Her name carries its own prophecy:

battle, thunder, and fury made flesh.

Early Life

As the youngest child of her house, Tyra was born into a lineage already defined by war.

She grew in the shadow of Ragnar, Alaric, and Rolf—men forged for battle and leadership—yet she did not remain in their shadow for long. From an early age, she carved her own place among them, not through title, but through capability.

While others were shaped by succession or sacrifice, Rolf was shaped by necessity—learning the systems, the structures, and the unseen labor that keeps a kingdom alive. He grew alongside Ragnar and Alaric in an age where survival depended not only on valor, but on endurance.

Where others were given roles,

Tyra claimed hers.

Gromyra

Upon becoming a full Winter Warrior, Tyra was given the name Gromyra.

It is a name of thunder—an echo of Grom the Thunderer—yet reshaped through the faith of Vetr, Lord of the Night. In it, her people saw something rare:

  • A storm bound to the cold

  • A warrior who does not burn, but strikes

  • A force that belongs to both sky and shadow

The Winter Warriors are not ceremonial. They are the shieldmaidens of the Wall, trained to endure the same brutality as any man of the Verndari—and Tyra stands among their fiercest.

She is not honored for her birth.

She is honored for her strength.

Lady Steward of the Wall

Though she holds no formal rank within the rigid hierarchy of the Wall, Tyra’s influence is undeniable.

As the wife of Rolf von Nottgard, the Veggstjóri, she stands beside the man who governs the Wall’s survival. Where Rolf ensures the systems endure, Tyra ensures the people do.

She offers:

  • Counsel shaped by battlefield experience

  • Judgment forged in the discipline of the Winter Warriors

  • A presence that commands respect without needing a title

She is not the voice that issues orders.

She is the force that ensures those orders are worthy of being followed.

The Warrior and the Steward

Tyra embodies a rare duality within Nottgard:

  • The warrior who has faced the cold with blade in hand

  • The steward who understands what must be protected behind those blades

She moves between these roles without conflict. To her, they are not separate paths—but the same duty seen from different angles.

To defend the Wall is to fight.

To sustain it is to endure.

Tyra does both.

Faith of the Night

Tyra is a devout follower of Vetr, Lord of the Night.

Her faith is not expressed in quiet reflection, but in action. She honors the Night through strength, resilience, and the willingness to stand when others would fall.

Where others pray for protection,

Tyra becomes it.

Legacy

Tyra von Nottgard is not defined by rank, nor bound by expectation.

She is a storm given form—

a warrior who chose her path,

a steward who strengthens the one beside her,

a daughter of the South who never yielded to it.

While others defend the Wall through command or structure,

Tyra defends it through something simpler—

and far more dangerous:

the will to stand,

no matter the storm.
