The Two Lights
Iliyasu Zahir serves as Master of Whisperers, the Empire’s supreme authority on intelligence, secrets, and covert influence.
A lifelong companion of Emperor Jalil Hazzan, his rise to power was not forged through battle or lineage, but through trust—earned in childhood and proven through unmatched instinct for uncovering truth.
He does not conquer kingdoms.
He uncovers them.
To the court, he is quiet.
To his enemies, he is everywhere.
To the Empire, he is the shadow beneath its light.
Born on Nox 10, 62 AH, in the Hazzan Kingdom, Iliyasu Zahir stands as the unseen force behind the Aurionic Empire’s intelligence and espionage. Bearing titles such as Spymaster and Chief Intelligence Advisor, he governs not armies, nor coin, nor law—but something far more dangerous: information.
Where others command what is visible,
Iliyasu commands what is hidden.
Iliyasu was born into the Hazzan Kingdom, the son of Khaled Zahir and Sharah Badri.
His life changed at the age of seven.
During mandatory military training, he met Jalil Hazzan, then a young prince. What began as proximity became friendship—a bond that would shape the future of the Empire itself. Over the next seven years, Iliyasu grew alongside Jalil, forming a connection built on trust, loyalty, and shared understanding.
Through this relationship, he also came to know Noor Qibaa, further embedding him within the inner circle of the future ruling power.
Yet while others trained in combat, Iliyasu excelled in something different.
He listened.
From ages seven to fourteen, Iliyasu revealed a gift that would define his life.
He was a natural social force—charismatic, observant, and disarming. Among his peers, he became a confidant, someone others trusted without understanding why. In their conversations, he gathered fragments of truth: family tensions, hidden ambitions, quiet betrayals.
And he remembered them all.
He shared these insights with Jalil, who recognized their value immediately. Even as a boy, Jalil began using this knowledge to identify weaknesses within noble houses—punishing those who threatened the stability of the kingdom.
Together, they learned an early truth:
Power does not begin with strength.
It begins with knowledge.
When Jalil ascended to the throne in 79 AH, he did not forget his friend.
He appointed Iliyasu Zahir as Master of Whisperers, entrusting him with the Empire’s intelligence network. It was a position built not on tradition, but on necessity—one that required absolute loyalty and absolute discretion.
Iliyasu accepted without hesitation.
By 80 AH, as the Aurionic Empire was formally established, his role expanded beyond a single kingdom to encompass all realms that the Aurionic Empire's conqueror light touched. His network grew with the Empire, embedding itself in every court, every city, and every shadow where secrets could be found.
As Master of Whisperers, Iliyasu oversees the Empire’s vast intelligence apparatus.
His responsibilities include:
Gathering intelligence across all seven kingdoms
Managing networks of informants, spies, and covert agents
Advising the Emperor on threats, conspiracies, and internal instability
Monitoring noble houses, vassal rulers, and foreign powers
His influence extends through unconventional channels—those overlooked or underestimated by others:
Orphans, who move unseen
Dawnmaidens, who hear what is spoken in private bedrooms
Servants, merchants, and wanderers, who carry whispers across borders
He does not rely on armies.
He relies on access.
Iliyasu’s power lies not in direct authority, but in reach.
He operates through a decentralized web of information, where even the smallest voice can carry the greatest truth. His network spans every level of society, ensuring that no secret remains hidden for long.
Where Beniman Qorash commands soldiers,
and Ermias al-Karim commands governance,
Iliyasu commands awareness.
Nothing moves within the Empire without the possibility of being seen.
Iliyasu’s authority is both vital and unsettling.
Unlike other members of the Small Council, his work is rarely visible, his successes rarely acknowledged, and his failures potentially catastrophic. He exists in a space of quiet necessity—respected, but never fully trusted.
Yet one thing remains constant:
His loyalty to Jalil Hazzan.
It is not political.
It is personal.
Iliyasu is perceptive, adaptable, and endlessly observant.
He understands people—how they think, what they hide, and what they fear. He rarely acts without purpose, and rarely speaks without intent.
He values:
Knowledge above force
Subtlety above confrontation
Patience above immediacy
Though devoted to Aurion, his faith manifests differently than others. Where the Empire sees light as revelation, Iliyasu understands that light casts shadows—and it is within those shadows that truth often resides.
Iliyasu Zahir represents the silent truth behind all empires:
What is known determines what survives.
He is not the face of power, nor its voice.
He is the whisper that shapes it.
If Jalil Hazzan builds the Empire,
Ermias al-Karim governs it,
Beniman Qorash defends it,
and Obi Nwachim sustains it—
then Iliyasu ensures that nothing within it remains unseen.
And in a world of crowns, armies, and gods,
it is often the unseen hand
that proves the most powerful of all.
