The Two Lights
Eibhear Ó Durnan serves as Lord Commander of the Sun Guard, the elite force sworn to protect the Emperor and the sanctity of the Palace of the Two Lights.
A man forged between two worlds—born of the living forests of Coill Mór and reforged under the blazing doctrine of Aurion—he represents the Empire’s ideal of transformation through discipline. His loyalty is not questioned, his presence not challenged, and his authority within the palace absolute.
To the Emperor, he is protection.
To the court, he is judgment.
To the Empire, he is the wall that does not break.
Born on Solara 22, 48 AH, in the Coill Mór Kingdom, Eibhear Ó Durnan stands as the unbreakable shield of the Aurionic Empire. Bearing titles such as The Shield of the Phoenix and First Sentinel of the Two Lights, he is the living embodiment of discipline, loyalty, and absolute devotion to the Emperor.
Where others swear oaths,
Eibhear becomes them.
Eibhear was born in the isles of Coill Mór, the son of Liam Ó Durnan and Aiofe Ó Murphy.
His childhood did not last.
At the age of seven, he was sent north to begin the brutal initiation of the Sun Guard, entering a world far removed from the forests of his birth. There, amidst the rigid discipline of the Hazzan war machine during the reign of King Tariq, he was stripped of identity, comfort, and tradition.
Survival required transformation.
He abandoned the teachings of Foraoise, the Keeper of the Forest, and embraced the doctrine of Aurion—the Blinding Truth. In doing so, he did not simply convert.
He committed.
The Sun Guard does not produce soldiers.
It produces absolutes.
Eibhear rose through its ranks not through charisma or favor, but through unwavering discipline and the absence of hesitation. He became known for his lack of sentiment, his precision in duty, and his refusal to allow personal identity to interfere with obligation.
By the time Jalil Hazzan rose to power, Eibhear had become one of the most reliable enforcers of imperial will within the capital.
In 83 AH, his loyalty was rewarded.
He was named Lord Commander of the Sun Guard.
As Lord Commander, Eibhear oversees the Emperor’s personal guard and the security of the Palace of the Two Lights.
His responsibilities include:
Protecting the Emperor, his family, and all imperial guests
Commanding the Sun Guard in both court and battlefield settings
Maintaining the sanctity and security of the imperial palace
Serving on the Emperor’s Small Council
He wears no distinct regalia to mark his rank—his authority is recognized through presence alone.
Where he stands,
the Emperor is safe.
The annexation of Coill Mór in 86 AH marked the defining test of Eibhear’s life.
His homeland—once distant, then forgotten—was brought under the rule of the Empire he served. For many, this moment would have created conflict.
He did not protest.
He did not hesitate.
He remained.
When Rhiannon of Coill Mór arrived in the capital, she represented the living memory of the world he had left behind. Yet Eibhear treated her no differently than any other under his protection—maintaining a strict, unyielding neutrality that reinforced his standing among the Hazzan elite.
To the court, he became known as the Silent Sentinel.
Beneath his discipline, however, lies something unspoken.
Eibhear recognizes in Rhiannon a reflection of his own past—the displacement, the quiet suffocation, the severing of identity. Though he offers no outward sign of favor, his actions reveal a different truth.
Her protection is absolute.
Her environment, controlled.
Her vulnerabilities, quietly guarded against unseen threats.
He does not treat her as kin.
He treats her as something fragile placed within an unforgiving system.
And he ensures that she survives it.
Eibhear’s authority is rooted in trust—absolute and unquestioned.
Within the Small Council, he aligns with:
Ermias al-Karim, Hand of the Emperor
Beniman Qorash, Master of War
Together, they represent the Empire’s core pillars of enforcement—governance, war, and protection.
He does not involve himself in politics.
He ensures that politics can exist without chaos.
Eibhear is disciplined, silent, and unyielding.
He does not speak unnecessarily, nor does he act without purpose. Every movement is calculated, every decision aligned with duty.
He values:
Loyalty above identity
Duty above emotion
Order above self
His devotion to Aurion is absolute, expressed through obedience and enforcement rather than philosophy. To him, the Light is not something to be understood.
It is something to be upheld.
Eibhear Ó Durnan represents the ultimate cost of loyalty:
the surrender of self.
He is a man who has given everything—his past, his identity, his origins—in service to something greater than himself.
If Jalil Hazzan is the ruler of the Empire,
and Beniman Qorash its sword,
then Eibhear Ó Durnan is its shield.
Unmoving.
Unquestioning.
Unbreakable.
And in a world where empires rise and fall,
it is often the shield—not the sword—
that determines how long they endure.
