The Two Lights
House Beauregard was founded in 110 BH through the divine vision of Vivienne “The Dawn-Eyed,” a mystic who claimed to witness Aurah standing upon the northern cliffs in radiant revelation. Through this vision, she ignited the Great Illuminance, a religious movement centered on the purity, beauty, and promise of the dawn, which unified the scattered duchies into a single spiritual and political entity—the Auroreline Kingdom. As its first queen, Vivienne established a dynasty rooted not in conquest alone, but in divine legitimacy and cultural refinement, intertwining rulership with sacred purpose and elevating House Beauregard as the chosen stewards of Aurah’s light in the mortal world.
Following Vivienne’s long and transformative reign, her successor Louis III “The Sun-King” expanded the kingdom’s influence through both trade and war, ushering in an era defined by ambition and conflict. The War of the Silver Lilies marked the beginning of a prolonged rivalry with the Nottgard Kingdom, a struggle that would span generations and shape Auroreline identity. Despite advancing prosperity through ventures like the Silk Trade Expansion, the kingdom endured repeated clashes, including the War of the Broken Gates and the drawn-out Century of Spite. Under Queen Marcella “The Golden Quill,” Auroreline strengthened its intellectual and cultural foundations—most notably through its partnership with the Archive of Ichnusa—yet conflict persisted, culminating in the Siege of the Night, reinforcing the kingdom’s dual identity as both a center of beauty and a bastion of resilience.
The independence of House Beauregard came to an end in 82 AH when Jalil Hazzan conquered the Auroreline Kingdom, binding it to the rising Aurionic Empire through both force and marriage. Juliette Beauregard, still young yet politically significant, was taken as Jalil’s third wife, symbolizing the absorption of Auroreline’s sacred lineage into imperial authority. The aftermath was marked by instability and personal tragedy: King Charles “The Defiant,” burdened by the pressures of serving as a regent under imperial dominance, ultimately took his own life in 83 AH. His son Bastien Beauregard assumed the regency, inheriting a kingdom no longer sovereign but still culturally vital, where House Beauregard endured as custodians of Aurah’s legacy within an empire that now claimed dominion over the dawn itself.
