House Moreau

The House of the Dark-Skinned

Origins of the Maur Tribe and Early Migration

House Moreau traces its roots to the Maur tribe, a people originally from the Marrakesh city-state long before it became known as Hazzanland. In 125 BH, they began a migration southward through the lands that would later be called Mauria, leaving behind a legacy so influential that the region itself took its name from them. While some of the Maur people settled permanently in Mauria, others remained nomadic, carrying with them a reputation for resilience, adaptability, and martial skill. Though not of the direct Hazzan bloodline, their origins intertwined with the same early cultural sphere, placing them as distant kin in both heritage and spirit.

The Call to War and the Birth of House Moreau

The defining moment for the Maur people came in 54 BH, during the outbreak of the Centuries of Iron and Silk between Auroreline and Nottgard. Following the death of Queen Vivienne “The Dawn-Eyed” Beauregard and the rise of King Louis III “The Sun-King,” Auroreline sought strength beyond its borders. Recognizing the martial prowess of the Maur tribe, Louis III enlisted them to aid in the coming conflict. A contingent of Maur warriors migrated into Auroreline, joining its forces just as tensions erupted into the War of the Silver Lilies. By the end of that same year, this branch of the Maur people had established itself as House Moreau—no longer merely a tribe, but a noble house forged in the crucible of war.

Legacy of Blood, Steel, and Distant Kinship

Though House Moreau stands apart from the direct lineage of House Hazzan, they are regarded as distant cousins, sharing echoes of the same ancestral roots that once shaped the Marrakesh city-state. Their integration into Auroreline society brought with it a hardened warrior culture, one that proved invaluable in the kingdom’s prolonged conflicts with Nottgard. Over time, House Moreau became known not only for its loyalty to Auroreline, but for its enduring legacy of battlefield excellence—an identity shaped by migration, forged in war, and sustained through generations as both outsiders and indispensable defenders of their adopted realm.
