The Two Lights
House Coill Mór was born in 67 BH from a time of fear and fragmentation, when the island clans lived under constant threat from the Iron Men of Nottgard and the seafaring Northmen of Auroreline. Their salvation came through Eithne “The First Root,” a druid who vanished into the Great Grove for forty days and returned bearing the “Seed of Aethelgard,” a divine gift from the goddess Foraoise. Through her teachings, the clans learned to shape the living forest into shelter, armor, and protection, proving that the land itself could defend them better than any fortress. With this revelation, Eithne unified the islands, founded the Coill Mór Kingdom, and established House Coill Mór under a sacred matrilineal system, ensuring that the “Life-Giver” would always rule.
After Eithne’s reign, her successors carried forward her vision of harmony between people and forest, most notably under Queen Sadhbh “The Silent.” Her rule marked the beginning of the Era of the Deep Shade, during which Coill Mór was deliberately concealed from the outside world. Through druidic rites and the manipulation of the living forest, the islands became a hidden sanctuary, shielded from invasion and influence alike. This isolation allowed the kingdom to preserve its traditions, deepen its spiritual bond with Foraoise, and cultivate a society rooted in balance, secrecy, and quiet resilience. The forest was not merely a resource—it was a living ally, and under Sadhbh’s guidance, it became an impenetrable veil.
The later queens of House Coill Mór, including Maeve “The Thorn” and Morrigan, upheld the strength and independence of the island kingdom through generations of continuity and natural defense. Yet even the ancient protections of the forest could not remain untouched by the shifting tides of the wider world. In 86 AH, Jalil Hazzan ventured to the islands as his empire reached its zenith, and Coill Mór became the final kingdom to enter the Aurionic Empire as a vassal. Unlike others, its submission was less a breaking than a bending—House Coill Mór retained its sacred traditions and matrilineal rule, now standing as a quiet but vital pillar within the empire, where the roots of the old world still held firm beneath the shadow of imperial power.
