Languages & Dialects of the Aurionic Empire

The Hidden Continent of the Deep Green

Language within the Aurionic Empire is not merely a tool of communication—it is a structure of power, identity, and unity. At its core, the Empire operates under a dual-language system: one that governs the movement of the people, and another that governs the will of the throne.

Ubaric, the language of the Sun-Roads, serves as the universal tongue of the Empire. It is mandated across all kingdoms to ensure trade, governance, and communication flow without fracture. In contrast, Hazzian—the Language of the Stars—remains the elevated tongue of imperials, royals, and nobles, reserved for ceremony, advanced education, and the precise articulation of power.

Together, these languages form the backbone of imperial cohesion: one practical, one transcendent.

The Dual Tongue System

Ubaric — The Language of the Sun-Roads

Ubaric is the enforced common language of the Empire, designed for clarity, speed, and accessibility. Its grammar is streamlined, its pronunciation softened, and its structure optimized for trade, governance, and daily life. It is the language of law, commerce, and education, and every citizen is expected to speak it regardless of origin or class.

Merchants negotiate in Ubaric, magistrates deliver rulings in Ubaric, and caravans crossing thousands of miles rely on it as the thread that binds distant cultures into a single functioning system. Its widespread use reflects Emperor Jalil’s vision: an Empire that can move, trade, and govern as one body.

Hazzian — The Language of the Stars

Hazzian stands in stark contrast—ancient, mathematically precise, and extraordinarily complex. With layered grammatical structures and rigid syntax, it is considered a complete language in both form and philosophy. It is used in coronation oaths, advanced scholarship, and the sacred articulation of the Sutir Pattern, where precision of language determines the success of divine manifestation.

To speak Hazzian fluently is to signal status, discipline, and proximity to power. While not required of common citizens, it is mandatory for nobles and above, reinforcing its role as a linguistic boundary between classes.

Language & Social Hierarchy

Language is one of the Empire’s clearest markers of status. Multilingualism is expected among imperials and royals, common among nobles, and rare among commoners.

  • Imperials & Royals: Fluent in Hazzian, Ubaric, and multiple regional languages

  • Nobility: Fluent in Hazzian, Ubaric, and at least one additional tongue

  • Commoners: Primarily Ubaric and their regional language

  • Servants: Expected to speak Ubaric and the language of their master’s household

Failure to speak Ubaric limits opportunity, effectively restricting social mobility and reinforcing imperial control through language itself.

Regional Languages of the Empire

Though unified under Ubaric, each kingdom retains its native tongue—preserved as a cultural identity rather than suppressed.

Maurese (Mauria/Maurim Kingdom)

A pragmatic and rhythmic language rooted in labor and survival, Maurese carries the tone of stone and iron. It dominates daily life and maritime culture, though it is often viewed by Hazzan elites as rustic and lacking refinement. Its strength lies in clarity and durability, making it ideal for construction, navigation, and command.

Aurorench (Aurorelince/Auroreline Kingdom)

Lyrical and ornate, Aurorench is the language of art, courtly expression, and refined culture. It flows like silk, layered with intention and beauty. While sometimes seen as overly elaborate, it holds prestige as the “second language of civilization,” particularly among nobles who lack mastery of Hazzian.

Nottgarse (Nottgardavia/Nottgard Kingdom)

Grave and percussive, Nottgarse reflects the harsh realities of the north. It is direct, ancient, and unyielding—spoken as much with force as with meaning. Though considered barbaric by northern elites, it commands respect in martial circles and is essential among warriors and mercenaries.

Villamvarian (Villamland/Villamvar Kingdom)

Analytical and precise, Villamvarian is the language of engineering, innovation, and controlled power. Its structure mirrors machinery—intentional, interlocking, and exact. It is prestigious among scholars and builders, though often perceived as cold and unsettling by those outside its culture.

Coillish (Coill Mór/Coill Mór Kingdom)

Mystical and cyclical, Coillish is deeply tied to nature and ancient knowledge. Its structure is non-linear, often reflecting cycles rather than sequences. While dismissed politically as inefficient, it is highly respected in medicine, druidic practice, and ecological understanding.

Language & Power

Language functions as a subtle but absolute instrument of imperial control. The enforcement of Ubaric ensures that all citizens can participate in the Empire, but also ensures that advancement is tied to linguistic conformity.

Official documents are written exclusively in Ubaric, and while regional languages are preserved culturally, they hold no authority in law. Courts within kingdoms may operate in native tongues, but the presence of imperial authority immediately shifts proceedings into Ubaric or Hazzian.

Translators and interpreters have therefore become a respected and essential profession, bridging the gap between identity and authority.

Language & Religion

Unlike law and governance, religion remains linguistically decentralized. Sacred texts and prayers are conducted in local languages, allowing each kingdom to maintain its spiritual identity.

However, beneath all known tongues lies Sutiron, the ancient written language of the Sutir. This primordial script—etched in cuneiform-like symbols—serves as the foundation from which Hazzian was derived. It is not spoken, only written, and is used in the most advanced forms of divine and cosmic understanding.

Table of Contents

Language & Education

The Aurionic Lyceum plays a critical role in maintaining linguistic unity. It standardizes the teaching of Ubaric across the Empire while training nobles and royals in Hazzian.

Literacy remains tied to class:

  • Nobility and above are fully literate

  • Commoners are literate only within the needs of their trade

  • Knowledge is translated and distributed through Maesters

This ensures knowledge flows—but remains controlled.

Trade & Communication

All inter-kingdom trade is conducted in Ubaric, making it the lifeblood of commerce. Merchants often learn additional languages based on trade routes, but Ubaric remains the universal standard.

There are no simplified trade dialects—Ubaric itself fulfills that role.

Table of Contents

Writing Systems & Alphabets

Each kingdom maintains a distinct writing system, reflecting its philosophy and environment:

  • Hazzian Script: Structured and precise, derived from Sutiron; used for formal texts and advanced knowledge

  • Ubaric Script: Simplified and efficient, derived from Hazzian; designed for speed in trade and governance

  • Maurese Script: Practical and durable; suited for carving, marking, and maritime use

  • Aurorench Script: Flowing and ornate; designed for beauty as much as function

  • Nottgarse Runes: Angular and carved; built for stone, wood, and permanence

  • Villamvarian Script: Geometric and technical; mirrors engineered systems

  • Coillish Ogham: Linear and symbolic; carved into wood and stone, deeply tied to nature

Among these, Hazzian remains the most complex and prestigious, while Ubaric remains the most widely used. No single script dominates all aspects of life—just as no single kingdom defines the Empire.

Legacy of Language

In the Aurionic Empire, language is more than speech—it is structure. It defines who may rise, who may rule, and who may be understood. It is the quiet force that binds distant lands into a single empire, even as those lands struggle to preserve the voices that make them unique.

To speak is to belong.

To master language is to hold power.
