The Two Lights
In the Aurionic Empire, education is not a privilege—it is an expectation. Every citizen is required to learn, though what they are taught is carefully shaped by their place within society. Knowledge is not distributed equally, but purposefully, ensuring that each individual is prepared to fulfill their role within the imperial order.
Education is therefore both a tool of empowerment and a mechanism of control.
While all citizens receive some form of education, its depth and scope are determined by social class.
Commoners begin their education at age seven, integrated into their mandatory military training.
Literacy is taught at a basic level where required
Instruction is practical and trade-focused
Skills are determined by guild alignment (craft, labor, commerce, etc.)
Advanced subjects are limited to what is necessary for functional success
Education for commoners is designed to produce capable workers—skilled, efficient, and aligned with the needs of the Empire.
Nobles receive a broader and more refined education, preparing them for leadership and administrative roles.
Fluency in both their native language and the language of the Crown
Instruction in economics, governance, and diplomacy
Exposure to history, philosophy, and cultural traditions
Noble education emphasizes responsibility, preparing individuals to act as intermediaries between the Crown and the people.
Royal and Imperial children receive the most comprehensive education in the Empire.
Mastery of multiple languages and cultural systems across kingdoms
Advanced training in governance, law, diplomacy, and religion
Direct instruction from Maesters of the Aurionic Lyceum
Their education is designed to produce rulers—individuals capable of understanding not only their own kingdom, but the entire Empire.
Language is central to identity and governance within the Aurionic Empire. All citizens are required to learn Hazzian, the language of the Crown, ensuring unity across regions.
In addition, each kingdom maintains its own linguistic tradition:
Hazzian – Language of the Crown and Hazzanland (Phoenician-inspired)
Maurese – Language of Mauria aka Maurim (Vulgar Latin / Celtiberian)
Aurorench – Language of Aurorench aka Auroreline (Old Occitan)
Ubaric – Language of Ubaris (Nabataean Aramaic)
Nottgarse – Language of Nottgard (Proto-Norse)
Villamvarian – Language of Villamvar (Dacian / Thracian influences)
Coillish – Language of Coill Mór (Ogham / Primitive Irish)
This multilingual structure reinforces both imperial unity and regional identity, allowing the Empire to function as a single entity without erasing cultural distinction.
At the center of higher learning stands the Aurionic Lyceum, the Empire’s most prestigious institution of knowledge. It serves as both a center of scholarship and a mechanism for intellectual standardization.
Open primarily to those who dedicate themselves to scholarly or specialized trades
Staffed by Maesters, who are trained in history, science, language, and philosophy
Funded directly by the Crown, ensuring alignment with imperial interests
Nobles may hire Maesters privately, while royal and imperial families are granted direct access as a matter of status and governance.
Assignment to a kingdom is considered a mark of honor among Maesters, reflecting both trust and prestige.
The Aurionic Empire does not view knowledge as something to be freely explored—it is something to be directed. Education is shaped to reinforce hierarchy, maintain stability, and ensure that each class remains effective within its designated role.
Innovation exists, but it is guided.
Curiosity is permitted, but it is contained.
Despite its structured nature, the Empire’s educational system allows for moments of expansion—particularly through the work of Maesters and the gradual blending of regional knowledge systems. Trade, diplomacy, and scholarship continue to expose individuals to ideas beyond their origin.
Yet even in these moments, the framework remains intact.
In the Aurionic Empire, knowledge is not chaos—it is order made visible.
It teaches the hand to work,
the mind to serve,
and the ruler to command.
For to know is not simply to understand—
It is to take one’s place
within the design of the Empire.
