The Two Lights
The Aurionic Empire measures time through a unified calendar system designed to reflect both cosmic order and imperial authority. The year consists of 13 months, each containing 28 days, forming a perfect and repeating structure of time. This symmetry reinforces the Empire’s belief that order is not accidental, but divinely established under Aurion.
At the conclusion of the year, a singular intercalary day is observed: Imperial Zenith Day, a sacred and political moment that exists outside the normal flow of time. During leap years, an additional intercalary day—The Day of the Prism—is added, honoring the unity of the vassal kingdoms.
All kingdoms within the Empire follow this calendar, ensuring synchronization of governance, religion, and daily life across all territories.
Each month carries both seasonal and cultural significance, often tied to a specific kingdom, deity, or phase of the natural world:
Primus-Aura – Early Spring – The Month of Auroreline, associated with dawn and renewal
Equinoxis – Spring Equinox – The beginning of planting season, especially in Coill Mór
Floralis – High Spring – A time of bloom and celebration, marked by festivals in Maurim
Solara – Early Summer – The “Birth of Heat” in the Hazzan heartland
Zenith – Mid-Summer (Solstice) – The High Holy Month of Aurion
Fulmen – Late Summer – The storm season of Villamvar
Aestiva – Harvest Start – The beginning of grain collection for the legions
Maturis – High Harvest – The Great Trade Month of Maurim
Sarab – Early Autumn – A time of illusion and shifting perception in Ubaris
Vespera – Late Autumn – The “Fading Light” before winter
Nox – Early Winter – The Month of Nottgard, aligned with night and endurance
Hiberna – Deep Winter (Solstice) – The “Silent Month” of the Maesters
Vetr-Mon – Late Winter – The “Final Chill” before the return of dawn
This structure binds the natural world, religious belief, and political identity into a single continuous cycle.
The Aurionic week consists of seven days, each dedicated to a major deity of the pantheon. These days are not only markers of time, but reflections of divine influence within daily life:
Auryon (Sun-Day) – Dedicated to Aurion
Aurahyn (Dawn-Day) – Dedicated to Aurah
Gromyn (Thunder-Day) – Dedicated to Grom
Sutiryn (Silent-Day) – Dedicated to Sutir
Foraoisyn (Grove-Day) – Dedicated to Foraoise
Sarabyn (Mirage-Day) – Dedicated to Sarab
Vetryn (Night-Day) – Dedicated to Vetr
Each day carries subtle cultural associations, influencing work, prayer, and behavior across the Empire.
Throughout the year, specific days are recognized as sacred, marking moments of divine significance, historical transformation, or cultural ritual:
Primus-Aura 1 – The Feast of the First Ray (Day of the High Dawn)
Equinoxis 1 – The Bloom-Awakening
Floralis 17 – The Night of the Deep Pulse
Zenith 1 – The Great Unveiling (Day of the High Sun)
Zenith 2 – The Betrothal Festival
Fulmen 10 – The Day of the First Spark
Maturis 17 – The Day of Reunification
Sarab 6 – The Night of the False Moon
Hiberna 4 – The Night of the Ink-Wash
Hiberna 28 – Vetr-Nótt, the Longest Night
These observances vary in tone—some celebratory, others solemn—but all serve to reinforce the Empire’s connection to its gods and its history.
Imperial Zenith Day stands apart from all other dates. Existing outside the standard calendar, it marks the end of one year and the threshold of the next.
On this day:
All debts are forgiven for a period of twenty-four hours
The Emperor delivers the annual State of the Empire address
The Empire symbolically resets, allowing for renewal of both personal and political bonds
In leap years, this moment is expanded with the addition of the Day of the Prism, a celebration of unity among the vassal kingdoms—acknowledging the diversity that exists within imperial order.
In addition to sacred festivals, certain dates are acknowledged as days of remembrance, honoring pivotal figures and events without formal celebration:
Primus-Aura 17 – The Rising of the Fire Lion (Jalil’s ascension as King of Hazzan)
Zenith 1 – The Rising of the Phoenix (Jalil’s ascension as Emperor)
Zenith 1 – Birth of Soraya Hazzan, regarded as a divine guiding presence
Fulmen 3 – Birth of Iskra Villam, seen in Villamvar as a blessing of Grom
Nox 7 – Birth of Nyx von Nottgard, seen in Nottgard as a blessing of Vetr
These days are marked by acknowledgment rather than festivity, reinforcing the importance of memory without disrupting the rhythm of daily life.
The Aurionic year is divided into four major seasonal phases:
Spring (Months 1–3) – Renewal and planting
Summer (Months 4–6) – Growth, heat, and expansion
Harvest & Autumn (Months 7–10) – Collection, trade, and transition
Winter (Months 11–13) – Endurance, stillness, and reflection
Planting occurs primarily in Equinoxis, while harvest dominates Aestiva and Maturis, aligning agricultural life with the structured flow of time.
The Aurionic calendar is more than a method of tracking days—it is a reflection of the Empire itself. It binds the movement of seasons, the will of the gods, and the authority of the Crown into a single, ordered system.
Every sunrise, every festival, and every passing year serves as a reminder:
That time is not random.
It is measured,
guided,
and held—
within the light of the Empire.
